DOES AADHAR REALLY NEED TO BE LINKED TO EVERYTHING?

I was going through the news the other day and came across this rather interesting piece of information. These days asking for Aadhar card has become so common and we mindlessly share it with anyone who asks for it. Here’s what Edward Snowden (in my opinion, his opinion is worth having) has to say about it:

So people, if you wish to avoid the mental distress that follows the event where your Aadhar is misused please do not mindlessly whip it out at the drop of a hat every time someone asks for it (e.g. travel desk). Please enquire if any other proof of identity is acceptable and submit that instead.

So tell me my dear readers: does Aadhar need to be linked to everything? Please feel free to share your thoughts in the comment section down below.

Thanks for reading!

  1. I think this “Aadhar” movement is similar to the U.S.’s SSN. Linking your accounts or phone numbers with one unique ID is exactly what the US did with their citizens. I know it’s a breach in the privacy, but on the bright side any illegal or criminal activity can be easily detected. Provided the security is robust though. What say you?

  2. And now a days people are troubling like anything for this Adhaar identity. We have to take some steps to stop this.A common man is suffering more than the rich.

  3. We are being unnecessarily forced to share our privacy with the government.Seriously it should be stopped. Digitalization is good but not without proper base and security!

  4. There is the same discussion in the USA about an equivalent – SSN. We are required to use it for anything and everything, so there are a lot of opportunities for misuse. And once someone gets their hands on yours, there is SO much damage they can do … You bring up an important issue.
